Office 365 Switzerland
Office 365 has been available from the Switzerland cloud region since December 2019. Specifically, this concerns the services Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams. This means that local SMEs benefit from several advantages: significantly shorter latency times, Swiss data storage and improved compliance with Swiss law and regulations. redIT migrates Swiss SMEs to Office 365 for a limited time at special conditions.
With Office 365 Companies have a powerful solution all around Productivity, teamwork and Communication available. Microsoft Teams was the youngest child to join Office 365. Teams is, so to speak, the productivity cockpit of Office 365, where all the threads come together. Employees organize themselves into groups, communicate via chat, manage pending tasks, work together on documents – all in one application.
Now, just around four months after Microsoft announced the launch of the Switzerland cloud region, Office 365 is becoming available from this same Swiss cloud. This includes Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Onedrive and the collaboration center Microsoft Teams. In detail this means:
- The contents of emails, their attachments and appointments in the calendar are stored on Microsoft computers in Switzerland
- Chat histories in Microsoft Teams are also stored in the CH cloud
- SharePoint pages and files stored on these pages are stored in the Switzerland cloud region
- Files uploaded to OneDrive before Business are also stored in the Swiss Microsoft data centers
Three decisive advantages of Office 365 from Switzerland
The fact that Office 365 is available to companies from Switzerland has several advantages:
- Shorter latency
Operating Office 365 in such geographical proximity significantly shortens the time in which communication takes place between server and client. A non-representative test here from Zug reveals that the latency in the exchange with Switzerland North is just half as long as, for example, West Europe in Amsterdam. Latency times depend on many factors and can therefore vary. This test, carried out via www.azurespeed.com, does not provide any definitive information, but it illustrates the differences very well. - Swiss data storage
With the launch of Office 365 in the Switzerland cloud region, data at rest will also be stored inland. This is all “inactive” data that is not currently on the network or being read/written. In the other case, data would be in transit, or data in motion the speech. Typical data at rest in O365 are file storage in SharePoint Online or Onedrive. - Improved compliance
With reference to cloud services Companies can outsource workloads and data storage to a cloud, but not legal compliance. Particularly in regulated industries, such as the banking sector, compliance with data protection regulations must always be guaranteed. This security is provided for the major Swiss banks UBS and CS; They already work with Microsoft Switzerland and obtain services from the CH cloud.
Primo Amrein, Cloud Lead at Microsoft Switzerland, emphasizes in the official media release the ongoing interest in the Cloud Region Switzerland: “We are very pleased about the great demand for the Microsoft Cloud in Switzerland. Since the launch 100 days ago, we have been able to migrate more than 150 large Swiss companies, SMEs and start-ups from all sectors as well as public sector organizations to our data centers.
