Power BI Potential Matrix

Power BI Potential Matrix

Are you still analyzing your data with Excel? We have something better for you: Power BI! This powerful business intelligence tool from Microsoft allows you to visualize and analyze data quickly and easily. Interactive reports and dashboards allow you to see important business figures and trends at a glance, leading to more informed decisions and minimizing risks. Despite the benefits, there are costs and risks associated with introducing a new tool. In this blog, we will introduce you to a simple tool that will quickly show you whether using Power BI is worth it for your company.

Find out if switching to Power BI is worth it for you!

Short detour: Excel vs. Power BI!

What are the advantages of Power BI compared to Excel? We are convinced that Excel and Power BI complement each other perfectly. Excel remains the preferred tool for classic spreadsheets, ad hoc calculations and simple compilations. Power BI, on the other hand, sets new standards for data visualization and analysis as for example in the budgetation be used. The most important differences between Excel and Power BI can be found here.

Power BI Potential Matrix instead of ROI calculation

How often in the past have you had to calculate the ROI* of a new investment or project? And how often did you know before you did the calculation that the costs would only be discussed if the ROI was between 0.33 and 0.5? The ROI had to be greater than 0.33 for the investment to be worthwhile. At the same time, it could not be greater than 0.5 to prevent the calculation from being too positive and the quality of the ROI assessment from being called into question. That sounds like a lot of effort to find out whether it is worth introducing Power BI. With our new tool, you can estimate the risks, costs and benefits of any Power Platform automation, which also includes Power BI, more quickly and easily. This means you no longer have to calculate the ROI, but can experience it in a short time.

The whole thing works with the scoring model that our solution consultant André Schär developed as part of his bachelor's thesis in business information technology at university. Using various criteria, the resulting potential matrix shows the risks, costs and benefits of automation. If the risks and costs are manageable and the benefits are high, it is a development in the area of "low-hanging fruit" and means that the investment is paying off. This is what a new development aims to achieve. But how can you correctly classify the risks, costs and benefits of the Power BI solution?

*ROI: The ROI (Return on Investment) calculation is a method of evaluating the profitability of an investment. A higher ROI indicates that the investment is more profitable, while a negative ROI indicates that costs exceed returns. This metric helps companies make informed decisions about investments and evaluate their efficiency.

Find out your Power BI potential

In order to correctly classify the potential of Power BI in your company in the matrix, we have created a form with 10 questions. After answering the questions, you will be shown whether data analysis with Power BI will be worthwhile for you. Fill out the survey and receive a professional assessment. Important: In order to find out your Power BI potential and fill out the survey, you must already carry out data analyses.

If you also have a "low hanging fruit", successfully implement your new Power BI solution with us and soon benefit from the various advantages:

  • Simplified teamwork

Power BI simplifies teamwork by allowing reports and dashboards to be shared and collaborated on in real time. The central cloud platform gives all team members access to the most current data and analyses, making collaboration and decision-making more efficient.

  • Fully automated report creation

Fully automated report creation in Power BI saves time and reduces manual errors because reports are updated regularly and without additional intervention. This means companies can always access up-to-date data and make informed decisions without having to manually adjust reports.

  • Real-time dashboards with dynamic and interactive elements

Real-time dashboards with dynamic and interactive elements in Power BI allow users to see current developments immediately and respond directly to specific data. This interactivity promotes faster analysis and more targeted decisions, as trends and relationships can be immediately identified and examined.

  • Effortless processing of large amounts of data from various data sources

Power BI effortlessly processes large amounts of data from various sources, enabling fast and efficient analysis. This enables companies to integrate and utilize complex data without much effort.

  • Various functions related to data protection

Power BI offers comprehensive data protection features, including Row Level Security (RLS), which ensures that users can only access the data that is relevant to them. These security measures enable companies to protect sensitive information while performing efficient data analysis.
